\begin{abstract}
This document provides the \LaTeX{} template for the Amsterdam Colloquium 2026. Included are a \texttt{.tex} file, a \texttt{.sty} file, a \texttt{.bib} file, two sample outputs of the compiled document (\texttt{AC2026\_Template\_Sample\_Linguex/Expex.pdf}), and a \texttt{.pdf} file needed for the footer (\texttt{illc\_no\_text\_logo.pdf}). In-line comments within the code editor of the source file, \texttt{AC2026.tex}, provide general guidelines for AC authors. This template adheres to the required formatting specifications and serves as an example of how your final manuscript should appear. Please use these instructions when preparing the final version of accepted papers.
In particular, do not add page numbers, and make sure that you update the following commands with the appropriate values: \begin{itemize}
\item \begin{verbatim} \title{}\end{verbatim}
\item \begin{verbatim} \author{}\end{verbatim}
\item \begin{verbatim} \addbibresource{}\end{verbatim}
\item \begin{verbatim} \setheaderinfo{}{}\end{verbatim}
\end{itemize}
\end{abstract}
\section{Introduction}
\lipsum[1] % Comment out to remove sample text
\section{Template Overview}
\subsection{References and Citations}
We use the biblatex package for bibliography management. We've added a convenience command for possessive citations: use \verb|\posscite{}| to cite in this way; for example, \posscite{einstein} or \posscite[p. 13]{einstein}. Additionally, you can use standard citation commands, such as \verb|\textcite{}|, \verb|\cite{}|, \verb|\citeauthor{}|, \verb|\citeyear{}|; for example, \textcite{dirac} or \citeauthor{knuth-fa}.
\paragraph{Troubleshooting.} If the bibliography isn't printed when you compile, it may be because you haven't installed biber but are using, e.g., bibtex (we use biber as the backend for biblatex due to better compatibility). Installing biber should solve the issue. More generally, if you encounter any problems with the template, you can also try compiling with an online editor like Overleaf, as outdated or missing packages may be the cause.
\subsection{Footnotes}
Footnotes can be added using \verb|\footnote{}|, like this:\footnote{Here's a sample footnote.}
\subsection{Figures and Tables}
Refer to Figure~\ref{fig:example} for an example of how to include a figure.
\begin{figure}[h]
\centering
\includegraphics[width=6cm]{illc_no_text_logo.pdf}
\caption{Here's an example of a caption for a figure.}
\label{fig:example}
\end{figure}
\subsection{Typesetting Examples and Glosses}
We prefer submissions typeset using \texttt{linguex} or \texttt{expex} - see document preamble. \texttt{Linguex} is preferred. However, the extra typographical power of \texttt{expex} may be required for glossing needs. Here's an example of the formatting using the \texttt{expex} option:
\pex<1> \a<a> \lipsum[1][1] \a \lipsum[1][1] \xe
And here's an example of the gloss formatting using the \texttt{expex} option:
\ex<2>
\begingl[glstyle=nlevel,aboveglftskip=-0.5ex,belowglpreambleskip=0pt]
Lorem [\textsc{x}/Lorem]
ipsum [\textsc{x}/ipsum]
dolor [\textsc{x}/dolor]
sit [\textsc{x}/sit]
amet [\textsc{x}/amet]
consectetuer [\textsc{x}/consectetuer]
adipiscing [\textsc{x}/adipiscing]
elit [\textsc{x}/elit]
\glft `Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit.'
\endgl
\xe
Heres an example of in text cross referencing: \getfullhyperref{1.a} is a plain example, and \gethyperref{2} is a glossed example.
Should the authors require a different package or prefer the use of the similarly popular \texttt{gb4e}, then load the relevant package in the preamble. E.g:
\begin{verbatim}
\documentclass[11pt]{article}
\usepackage{AC2026}
\usepackage{gb4e}
\end{verbatim}
\paragraph{Typographical Note for \texttt{Expex} Users} In \texttt{linguex}, the spacing between two subsequent examples is defined by \verb+\Exredux+, whose
default is \verb+-\baselineskip+. \verb+\Exredux+ ensures that sequentially occurring examples are not separated by too much blank space. In contrast, sequentially occurring numbered examples using the \texttt{expex} \verb|\ex \xe| environment will generate more blank space than desirable between examples. Witness:
\begin{verbatim}
\ex \lipsum[1][1] \xe
\ex \lipsum[1][1] \xe
\end{verbatim}
Produces:
\ex \lipsum[1][1] \xe
\ex \lipsum[1][1] \xe
In the name of saving virtual paper, a necessity for papers whose final length conforms to the requirements of AC2026, one should modify the \verb|\ex \xe| environment with \(\sim\). \verb|\ex~ \xe|::=\verb|\ex[aboveexskip=0pt] \xe|. This produces the desired result:
\begin{verbatim}
\ex \lipsum[1][1] \xe
\ex~ \lipsum[1][1] \xe
\end{verbatim}
\ex \lipsum[1][1] \xe
\ex~ \lipsum[1][1] \xe
