At Overleaf, we run regular retrospectives, bringing the team together in a video call to reflect on our progress and think of ways to improve ourselves as an organisation. We also like to experiment with the format of these retrospectives, changing the structure and topic of the meeting to shift our focus and see ourselves from new angles each time. For our last retrospective, I asked the team to zoom out and look at Overleaf as a full system, through the lens of the Viable System Model.

On September 23rd, 2019 at 13:00 GMT we upgraded our LaTeX compile servers to make the final version of TeX Live 2018 available. Here we provide some notes on important changes in TeX Live 2018 together with some observations based on our own testing.

Overleaf was delighted to sponsor the blair3sat project with a free Overleaf Group Account. They wrote this little blog about their project and how they used Overleaf. :)

blair3sat is a group of high school students which plans to launch a small satellite into space. Any STEM field requires its participants to write scholarly articles, which in our case are even more essential to secure funding for our new team. Thanks to the generous team at Overleaf, we can now easily script high-quality LaTeX papers collaboratively in real-time over the internet.

4,047,647 to be exact. Well, exact for at least one instant in time 😊

On behalf of the whole Overleaf team, I'd like to say:

Thank you. We've always tried to put you—our users—first, aiming to provide the best tool for editing and collaborating on LaTeX documents online whilst simultaneously growing as a business and as a team.

These past two years have seen some of the biggest changes—and the biggest advances—as Overleaf and ShareLaTeX joined together to create Overleaf v2. It's not always been the simplest of integrations, but we've done our best to make it a smooth transition and get it all running as one.

Whether you're someone just starting out, creating your first LaTeX documents on Overleaf, or someone who's been writing since early days of TeX itself, we're doing our best to make Overleaf easy and convenient to use regardless.

We appreciate all the love and support you show us (which is shared internally on our #overleaf-testimonials Slack channel!), and are looking forward to the next four million users...and the learnings that will undoubtably bring!

    Thanks again—you're all amazing 😊
